Liss Band
Hi everybody, a bit of a strange request, Liss Band have a vacancy for a pril’phonium player, it is similar to a euphonium but sounds funnier, more like a trombone, the funniest of brass band instruments. If you know anybody that may be interested in filling the seat please forward and share this message. An opportunity like this only comes around once every year! Please like and share! About Us

Liss Band is a friendly brass band based in the village of Liss in Hampshire. Founded in 1974 it is proud to be at the heart of the local community.

At present the band has 35 members covering a wide range of ages; however the band is always on the lookout for new players. It performs a regular series of concerts throughout the year ranging from summer afternoon fetes to evening concerts.

The Band was formed in 1974 by the Head and Deputy Head teachers of Liss Junior School out of a desire to give the young Brass players leaving the school a way to continue their musical development.  Incredibly, 2 members of the current Band played at the very first rehearsal!  Over the following years, the Band went from strength to strength, developing quickly and growing its membership across a range of age groups.  During it’s 50 years, highlights include; concerts at Cathedrals, on the Thames, performances in Denmark, Germany and France, Weddings (including Band members) and numerous Brass Band competitions.  However, the Band has always maintained the core of its activities in Liss and the surrounding area, representing the village with pride at many events such as Remembrance Sunday.

2024 was a special year for Liss Band with highlights including a reception for the Band by the Liss Parish Council, a band trip to Devon to take part in a huge Brass Band Festival called Bandemonium and a 50th Anniversary concert on Nov 2nd at the Petersfield Festival Hall.  On top of that, the first official history of the Band was authored by one of our longest serving players.

Training Section

Liss Band’s training section is currently a group of musicians of all different playing abilities.

They are also guided by other players from the main band who volunteer their time to help players progress with the aim of moving up to the main band.

The training section often perform during concerts with the main band to help give players the experience of performing to an audience.

Rehearsals take place in term time every Wednesday evening from 06:00pm – 07:15pm. The training section is invited every Wednesday evening to play with the main band from 07:00pm – 07:15pm to give them the chance to play with more experienced players.

Players of all ages who are currently learning or have previously learnt the basics are welcome so please contact us if you would like to join us.
